Our Wednesday Night Bible Study starts at 6:30 PM in Piper Hall.

During the upcoming sermon series, we'll be discussing the adopted values of Piperton UMC. This is not a study of our denominational faith and doctrine. These values are simply the clearest expression of the values that undergird our mission and vision statement.

Week One: God as Leader

September 17th

We believe that all that matters is doing God’s will.
Jesus said "...For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me." John 6:38 (NIV)

We believe that relevant, creative biblical teaching changes lives.
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. It is God's way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT)

Questions to Consider

How can we completely know God's will?

Do we understand Scripture well enough to glean God's will for our lives?

What are the things that make for better understanding of God's will?

Week Two: Intentional Discipleship

September 24th

We believe lost people matter to God therefore they matter to us.
Jesus said "...In the same way, it is not my heavenly Father's will that even one of these little ones should perish." Matthew 18:14 (NLT)

We believe that Christ-followers need an intentional spiritual growth plan.
You must crave pure spiritual milk so that you can grow into the fullness of your salvation. Cry out for this nourishment as a baby cries for milk... 1 Peter 2:2 (NLT)

Questions to Consider

How can we encourage more people to become disciples?

What happens when someone becomes a disciple?

What is the fullness of salvation and how does one grow into it?

Week Three: Finding a Kingdom Job

September 31st

We believe that every Christ-follower has a kingdom job to discover and do.
A spiritual gift is given to each of us as a means of helping the entire church. 1 Corinthians 12:7 (NLT)

We believe that God deserves our best efforts.
And whatever you do or say, let it be as a representative of the Lord Jesus, all the while giving thanks through him to God the Father. Colossians 3:17 (NLT)

Questions to Consider

What are the differences between a talent, a gift, and a job?

What is your spiritual gift?

When you do something or say something, do you do it as a representative of Jesus?

Week Four: Worship as a Way of Life

October  8th

We believe that worship is a lifestyle as well as an event.
For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth. John 4:24 (NLT)

We believe that healthy relationships are essential to our life together. Jesus said, "...So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples." John 13:34-35 (NLT)

Questions to Consider

What does it mean to worship?

What does "worship as a lifestyle" mean to you?

How do you show love for each other? Does that love "prove to the world that you are His disciples?"

Week Five: Sharing Ministry and Mission

October 15th

We believe that we are called to minister beyond the church.
Jesus said "...But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8 (NIV)

We believe that ministry involves more than one minister.
Brothers, choose [disciples] from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn … responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word. Acts 6:3-4 (MSG)

Questions to Consider

Think of the ministries at our church. How many are internal? How many are external?

What are the most pressing needs of our neighborhood? Our city and county? Our region? Our world?

What are the roles and tasks that can only be fulfilled by a clergyperson?

What are some tasks that are "traditionally" clergy roles, but could be laity roles as well?
